I’ve been unsatisfied with how my Guitar Blog looks for quite some time now, and was reflected by my posting frequency in the last few months. That is, nil. It’s not a knock on the theme I was using before, the beautiful K2 Mod Unsleepable. Rather, it just wasn’t me, and I wanted something that was attuned to my aesthetics. And so, with that preamble out of the way, I present, the Guitar Blog Reload:

SimplaZEN at the Philippine Blog Awards

Well now, isn’t this awkward. I’ve been doing intensive modifications for my SimplaZEN theme, which will be used for an as-yet unlaunched blog network, and I find that it’s a finalist for the 2007 Philippine Blog Awards for Best Custom Theme. Whoever nominated this, thanks Unfortunately, the sleeker, updated version (SimplaZEN Extended) won’t be available for download, but rest assued that development on this theme will still continue, parallel to SimplaZEN Extended.

MoBlabber Philippines is live!

MoBlabber is a web-to-mobile-to-web application centered on the concept of group messaging. Think Yahoo! groups on your phone and you have a good idea to start with. Members can create or subscribe to groups, allowing them to send messages to every group member at the cost of - get this - a peso. 1/48th of a dollar. That’s less than what a stick of ciggies would cost. It’s like the lite version of that promo where you can get updates from your favorite celebrities, only this time, you’re the celebrity.

The possibilities are endless: if you have a car, you can create or join a traffic monitoring group to get updates on which routes to take. Students working on a project can keep track of each other’s progress. Politicians on the campaign trail can more easily coordinate with their affiliates nationwide. Bars and clubs can start a group and offer weekly updates on their events. Musicians and bands can now keep their fans up-to-date instantly. Or just barkadas that want to meet up and hang out.

The key, really, is the core of MoBlabber: groups. The power and simplicity of having to send just one message to potentially all your friends, without having to pay for each message. That’s a convenience that everyone can appreciate.

If there’s a drawback though, it’s that the service is only currently available to Smart subscribers. Still, that’s a minor drawback considering a lot of people I know have 2-3 SIMs anyway, and I actually went out and bought one the minute I learned the service was live. Towards a standards compliant web?

Web standards advocates Shari and Aja are looking into forming a group of like minded people — that is, web standard advocates — and I wish them luck in their endeavors. I’ve never been an advocate, although I loathe the use of tables myself, but it’s more of a practical matter: I find divs just easier to code than tds.

Waxing nostalgia over Fallout

When Phillip wrote about the possibility of a Fallout 3 in his blog, I knew I had to find out for myself. Can it be true? Can one of the most beloved of game franchises be making a comeback? Apparently so. And I’m just tickled pink about it — no mean feat, that, given my complexion.
