Chiz Escudero Facts: an SEO study
February 23rd, 2007
The Chiz Escudero Real Ultimate Facts! site started as a joke, until, on a whim, I tried doing a search for ‘Chiz Escudero Facts’, lo and behold:
A #1 in Yahoo! for a relatively easy keyword isn’t all that much, but Google has it on it’s listings already at #2; it was created Feb. 20 - 4 days ago! So much for the Sandbox.
One thing I hate though is that the rankings fluctuate all the time in all but the really established sites, so the results may vary by the time you do check it out.
Ok, so ranking well for ‘chiz escudero facts’ is one thing. How about just ‘chiz escudero’?
Yahoo! has me at #5 and #6:
Google, though, as me on the third page:
I’m not too worried, since up until a few hours ago, I wasn’t even in the SERPS at all. And besides, my blog is sitting pretty at #4 on the first page:
Ah, the power of targeted keywords. LOL.
A quick look at my Google Analytics reveal that since I started tracking stats (Feb 21) up to yesterday, the site has had 1,877 pageviews on 253 visits from 163 unique visitors. Oh my. That is, like 500 lawyers at the bottom of the ocean, a good start
In fact, that’s effin’ insane! Now I just need to figure out how to get people to link to the site ^_^
I’m glad I did this, though, as I learned quite a few things today:
- The sandbox might not actually exist, or if it does, 4 days and very few incoming links (5) seems like an awfully low standard for inclusion.
- In any SEO campaign, knowing exactly what keywords you want to rank in and putting it all over the site is extremely, if not the most important.
- It got me thinking about just how much passing XHTML 1.1 validation played a role in getting indexed this quickly.
- Being silly is fun!
